Suistamon Sähkö – “Electricity of Suistamo” – combines wild accordion rhythms with Karelian folk music and hip hop – the end result is catchy, unpredictable folk electro. In the core of this contemporary Karelian folktronica is Anne-Mari Kivimäki’s Russian toy accordion surrounded by Eero Grundström’s inventive samples and electronics. Reetta-Kaisa Iles and Tuomas Juntunen perform manic vocals and energetic dancing, which invites you to dance yourself to the trance.
Archive treasures meet electronica
Suistamon Sähkö’s music is inspired by old maps of Suistamo village, crackling accordion tunes on archive tapes, the Ignoila hydroelectric power plant and bumpy roads of Karelia. Rhythm of the traditional Karelian music is danceable and repetitive like trance, which makes it a great match with electronica. Soundscapes of the songs will take you for a ride to the windling roads, marshlands and a rumbling power plant.
Awarded primus motor
Singing accordionist Anne-Mari Kivimäki is the primus motor and crazy alchemist of the band. She was awarded The Artist of the Year prize in the first Finnish Etnogaala in 2017.
