Elsa Angervo to Star in Ilmajoki Music Festival’s New Opera in Summer 2027

Following a series of works exploring historical themes, the new opera turns its gaze to the present day, examining the limits of humanity from a contemporary perspective.

“Juho Lindström’s insightful set design and Leena Rintala’s costumes bring to life a school environment where the present and the past alternate. Teacher Leena (Helena Juntunen) struggles under the growing pressures and responsibilities of the education system while, at the same time, finding herself supporting her student Senja (Elsa Angervo). The teaching methods of the past provide a striking contrast to the present day, while a teacher from the past (Hannu-Pekka Björkman) emphasizes the bygone era with his commanding authority. Other roles include, among others, Olavi Suominen and Markus Nieminen. The production is conducted by Eero Lehtimäki.”
